2.5 Year Well Visit

Judith had another well baby (or I guess that should be well toddler) visit this morning.  She wasn't in the greatest mood when she woke up, and I now realize it's because she's constipated again, so the visit was a little interesting.  It was almost like she was reverting back to the fits she had previously, but with a new twist: she was super clingy and was demanding I hold her almost the entire time.  I'm interested to see how she reacts at her next clinic visit.

Everything looks and sounds good!  She's currently 25 1/2 lbs (14%) and 34" tall (10%).  I'm excited that she's finally above the 10% range on the charts, but at the same time I realize she really hasn't gained a lot in the last few months, which means we're going to get an earful from the nutritionist at our clinic visit.  I'm still holding out hope that as she gets older, it'll be a little easier to get her to eat.

2 Year Stats

Judith's 2 year well baby was this afternoon, and her pediatrician's pleased with her progress!  The real test will be to see what her CF team thinks when we go for our next appointment, but for now, I'll take what we can get!

Since my mom got a new job and her vacation time is nowhere near what she previously had, John went along to the appointment with us.  I was counting on it being another nightmare of an appointment, but Judith gave us a huge surprise!  Things didn't start out too well, and she didn't want to walk out of the waiting room, so John had to carry her, all while she was crying and saying "Bye bye!" to anyone that would listen.  She had a small fit while we were taking off her shoes and pants, but calmed down once we set her on the scale.  For the first time, she got to stand on the big kid scale!  I think that helped calm some of her nerves since it's a novelty right now.  She started crying and saying "All done!" when they tried to measure her height with the big kid measuring device, but we got a good read before she pushed the nurse away.

Her official 2 year stats:
Weight: 23 lbs (8%)
Length: 32" (10%)

I was glad that we got a digital read on her weight!  Her pedi is pleased with her weight gain since her 18 month visit, and she surprised me with how much she gained, but this is a sticky area that I always worry about what her CF team will say.  Judith's still petite, but is following her own curve so that's good.

Anyway, Judith did really well with the blood pressure cuff when the nurse took her BP, and Judith was extra good for Dr. W. during her exam!  She was happily showing off her language skills, saying things like "Circle!  I see circles!" and "It's a boo boo."  Dr. W. echoed what Judith's speech therapist has been saying: based off how many words she's picking up and starting to chunk together into small sentences and phrases, she may not qualify for services after her 9 month quarterly.  At the very least, we'll probably be scaling back.

Judith did have a very slight temp this afternoon, 99.6ยบ.  We know she's teething, so it very well could be from that, but at the same time I'm keeping tabs on it in case it gets worse and she's getting sick.  Her lungs sounded pretty clear, so that's always a positive thing to hear!  Judith also got 2 shots today: her 2nd HepA and the pneumovax (the extra 23 variant pneumonia vaccine, since she's in the high risk group).  I was hoping we could do the pneumovax to get some extra protection into her, but wasn't counting on having to do another shot.  I thought for sure that we were caught up, but we missed the 2nd HepA dose somewhere along the line.  It's no big deal now, because I know we're caught up!

I hope I don't jinx things, but I'm really keeping my fingers crossed that her clinic appointment will go just as well and she won't be terrified.

18 Month Stats

Judith's 18 month well baby visit was this morning.  Her pediatrician is impressed that Judith isn't on a lot of meds right now (and frankly I'm pretty damned amazed myself), and while she isn't unhappy with Judith's weight she's not totally happy either.

Judith's current stats are as follows:
Weight: 20 lbs, 12 oz (10%) - we're getting closer to finally being able to get The Vest!
Length: 30 1/4" (10%)
Head Circumference: 18" (25%)

I'm excited about her weight percentile - she's finally hit a percentile that's higher than the 3%!  Granted this can change by our next clinic visit, but for now I'll take it!  She's also finally on the chart for her length, and that's very exciting!  Her head circumference is still following it's curve, so no concerns there.

Judith actually did pretty well this visit, especially compared to past behavior.  She waved hello to Dr. W. when she came into the room, and only had 1.5 meltdowns: the first one was when the nurse measured her length (she didn't want to be stretched out), and the second one was when Dr. W. checked her hips.  Otherwise she spent most of the exam swatting the various equipment and Dr. W.'s hands away from her.

I discovered a small surprise when Dr. W. was checking Judith's teeth: the 2 bottom molars started cutting through, and apparently the top right molar also decided to make an appearance.  That means she's cutting all 4 at once - no wonder she's been so miserable!  They're only partially in, so we still have a way to go before she's fully done, but I'm hoping that this start will make her a little less miserable and the rest of the tooth cutting will go smoothly.

No shots today - that was a huge bonus!  We don't need to go back until it's time for her 2 year visit (how is that possible?!), exception being for her flu shot and hopefully for Synagis, because Judith will have at least 2 more clinic visits between now and then.

15 Month Well Baby Visit

All I have to say is at least Judith's consistent!  We had another fun-filled appointment, this time with her primary pediatrician for her 15 month well baby check.  I'm super glad my dad was able to come and help me - it would've been next to impossible to talk to Dr. W. with Judith shrieking in my ear!

Judith was leery when we checked in, but as soon as she saw the nurses she started whining. The second we hit the exam room, she was in a full-blown pissed off state, and was clinging very tightly to my dad.  It was an adventure undressing her and getting a dry diaper on her for an accurate weight!

She continued to shriek as the nurse measured her head, her length, and weighed her.  Judith had herself that upset that once we got back to the room she puked all over my dad's shoulder and the floor.  This was a new experience for us - not so much the puking, but her getting that upset that she puked.  Lesson learned: don't feed her a lot before these appointments until she gets better about doctor visits!

The good news is she gained about half a pound since we were at the CF clinic last month, and she's back in the 3rd percentile for weight!  She weighed 19 lbs and was 28" long (still not on the charts, but we'll get there eventually).  I missed what her head circumference was because of her screaming, but I do know that she's still in the 10% for that.  She's following her own curve, and her pediatrician is pleased with that!  Granted, we'll have to wait and see what her CF team says at her next clinic visit, but I'm hoping that she's back on track for steady weight gain!

Everything else looked good too: her lungs were clear (yay!), her ears looked good, her joints are moving properly, and she's not showing really significant delays developmentally (at least nothing more than what we would expect because of her prematurity).

I knew Judith would be getting her next Synagis shot, but I didn't realize she would get 2 more shots.  I thought we were caught up with everything and she would get more of them at her 18 month visit, but she ended up getting 2 more today.  So she had 3 shots, but 4 needle sticks because of the pesky Synagis.  My lack of realization with the shots is solely my fault - I forgot to check the CDC's recommended schedule before this appointment, so I need to remind myself to check it before her 18 month so I'm better prepared and not surprised!

Official 1 Year Stats & A General Update

We just got back from the pediatrician's office.  4 shots (Synagis, Hep A, Varicella, & MMR) and 1 blood test later, I have Judith's official 1 year stats!

Weight: 17 lbs 4 oz (5th percentile)
Length: 26.5" (not on the charts yet)
Head Circumference: 17-something" (10th percentile, and I can't remember what it was exactly - mommy brain lol)

Her pediatrician is pleased with everything, and is pleased with her progress!  While we will continue to adjust her age for another year, Judith is catching up nicely!  She's practically caught up to her actual age, and it will be interesting to see how she tests when we go to our next NICU clinic appointment.  We're continuing with the monthly Synagis injections, but unless she gets sick we won't have to go back until her 15 month well-baby appointment.

In other news, I heard from the medical supply company, and Judith's Pediasure will be shipped any day.  I was rather pleased with how fast they contacted me, and was extra pleased when I found out that they could provide us with a variety of flavors!  Judith's really enjoying the stuff, and I'm enjoying having the peace of mind that she's getting the extra calories she needs.

New 9 month Stats

Judith had her 9 month well-baby appointment today, and things are looking good!

Weight: 15 lbs
Length: 24 3/4" (I know that's less than what I posted in her 9 month post, but that's what they got today haha).

Her head is in the 10th percentile, her length still isn't on the charts, and her weight is in the 3rd percentile - all of these are based off of her actual age.  If we went by her adjusted age, her percentiles would've been 25-10-25 respectively.  Her pediatrician and I are happy with her growth, because it's been steady and consistent so far.

She got her last Hepatitis B vaccine, and got her flu shot.  She goes back in a month to get the 2nd dose - she must have 2 doses this year because it's the first time she received it.  She was flat out pissed about being stuck with needles today, but thankfully she got over it quickly and is now sleeping.

We discussed Judith's vision, and her pediatrician noticed right away that something's up.  I got a referral to 3 different opthamologists, so now I need to call and see if they take our insurance and can set up an appointment soon.

Her pediatrician has this year's round of Synagis ordered, and apparently Judith's at the top of their list this year.  Our insurance should cover it (she has to have it because of the CF), and I'm hoping that the MA will pick up any copays from the primary so our out-of-pocket costs will be minimal (if anything at all).

Unless she gets sick, and with the exception of the shots, we don't have to go back until her 1 year well-baby exam.  I'm happy and sad at the same time, because that means I won't have to drag her out in the cold as much, but I'll also have a toddler at that appointment.  She's growing up way too fast!
